David Beaman and Graham White, Farnham Resident Councillors for Farnham North West, were quick to react to local residents’ concerns about a week-long event which would have seen up to 150 vehicles taking over a field at Dippenhall Farm, off Crondall Lane.
No consultation had taken place with local authorities or the police over the holding of such a large event, and residents were concerned about noise and other disturbances, as well as the fact that the narrow roads in the area do not have the capacity to deal with the additional traffic that would be generated.
Cllrs Beaman and White alerted Waverley Borough Council’s enforcement team to the event, and, although Waverley had no legal powers to prevent the event being held, David Hollingsworth, Waverley’s Anti-Social Behaviour Officer worked with local police officers to persuade the landowner and event organisers to respect residents’ wishes and cancel the event.
To the great relief of Dippenhall residents, confirmation that the event had been cancelled was received on Tuesday.
Incidents such as these show that Farnham Residents Councillors will act quickly and decisively to take whatever action can be taken to respond to the concerns of local residents and protect their interests and, if you’re inspired to help and support us, Click Here.
